Although not a dedicated Judo Dojo, Heiwashin Dojo of Baton Rouge, LA, sent four of its students to compete at the 2008 Louisiana State Judo Championships in Denham Springs, LA, on March 29, 2008. This was the first Judo tournament for the dojo and for each of the students.

Competing in the Senior division was Nick Long and Cal Szur. Cal placed 2nd in his division, and although Nick did not place in the top three, he gave a tremendous effort to place 4th in his division.

Representing the dojo in the Junior division was Mason Long and Isaac Landry. Mason placed 2nd in his division and Isaac placed 3rd.

Robert Carver, the Head Instructor of the Heiwashin Dojo, sends his thanks to James Wall of Wall to Wall Martial Arts and Jeff Miller of Acadia Judo for making them feel welcome and putting on a great tournament.

On March 8, 2008, Samurai Judo and Jujitsu of Melbourne, the fastest growing Judo school in Florida, sent several competitors to the USJA Florida State Judo Championships in Boca Raton.

The team of David J. Ellis and Peter McMahan took the gold medal for Kime-no-Kata. Ellis was the Head Referee for this event, and after the Kata competition Ellis and McMahan worked the mats as referees for the Shiai portion of the tournament.

Adrian Pozo, a Samurai Judo and Jujitsu student, took the silver medal in the men's 81 kg division from a field of seven tough competitors.

Ellis and McMahan, instructors at Samurai Judo and Jujitsu in Melbourne, Florida, were honored in 2005 as the USJA Florida State Outstanding Senior Kata Competitors.
