Dallas
Ju-Jitsu Seminar
Dallas, Texas
December 9-11, 2005
"Twas three weeks before
Christmas and many were concerned about shopping for all those seasonal
gifts. Yet in Dallas, Texas - many martial artists
from several different schools came together at the Chamberlain
Self Defense Studio for an Exceptional Weekend of Ju-Jitsu & Judo
Training from Bruce Bethers Sensei, President
of USJJF and the well known Vince Tamura
Sensei , one of the Highest Ranked Ju-Jitsuka & Judoka in the USA!"
The Coordinator of this
Outstanding Event was Jim Webb Sensei , 7th
Dan, Chief Judo Instructor of the Chamberlain Self Defense Studio in
Dallas, TX.
The weekend began on
Friday evening with President Bethers flying in from the Pentagon,
Washington D.C. to conduct the Ju-Jitsu Competition Orientation &
Referee Course.
On Saturday morning, the
course began with an introduction of the UNITED STATES JU-JITSU
FEDERATION (USJJF) the USA National Governing Body for Ju-Jitsu and
the JU-JITSU INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION (JJIF), the World Governing
Body for Ju-Jitsu. In the referee course, both the JJIF "DUO" (Self
Defense) and "Fighting System" Rules were explained in great detail. In
addition, the participants watched videos from past World Championships
and spent time on the tatami practicing the DUO Attacks & Self Defense
Techniques taught by Bethers
Sensei and then they completed the written exam for DUO. In the
afternoon, participants learned about the JJIF Fighting System and
completed the Referee Exam.
By the end of the
weekend, after some "mock competition matches & testing" approximately
20 new USJJF Referees were certified.
United States Ju-Jitsu of
Texas (USJJ of TX) is now
planning to conduct several competition training events and the "2006
Texas State Ju-Jitsu Championships".
On Sunday morning , on
behalf of the USJJF, President Bruce Bethers formally presented Vince
Tamura Sensei with USJJF National Recognition of his 9th Dan in Ju-Jitsu
and Traditional Kodokan Judo. USJJF President Bethers stated, "Sensei
Tamura is a very well known National Treasure in the
US Ju-Jitsu and Judo Community". He further said, on behalf of
All USJJF Members across the USA, "We Salute & Thank Yoshito
Vincent Tamura Sensei for his many Life-Time
Contributions in the American Martial Arts". After the formal
presentation, both Sensei Tamura and Bethers taught Ju-Jitsu and Judo
skills. The seminar continued until late afternoon, then Jim Webb
Sensei provided transportation for Bethers
Sensei back to the airport and by midnight, Bruce Bethers
was back in Washington D.C. According to many, it was a "Great Weekend"
and everyone is looking toward 2006 for more "Good Things" to come!
