SHIMMEISHO-NO-WAZA

In 1895, the Leaders of Kodokan Judo established the formal Gokyo No Waza consisting of forty two (42) throwing techniques. The Gokyo No Waza was revised in 1920 with eight (8) techniques excluded and six (6) added, leaving forty (40) throws with five levels of techniques forming the present Gokyo No Waza. This is now a taxonomy of Kodokan Judo Nage Waza (throwing techniques) from "easiest to most difficult" in skill level.

In 1982, after a number of new throwing techniques had come into common use and with careful consideration, the Kodokan added back the eight (8) throws from the former GoKyo, which had been eliminated in 1920, plus seventeen (17) new throwing techniques which are known as the Shimmeisho-No-Waza.

The Shimmeisho-No-Waza throwing techniques are as follows:
